November 2009 Archives

Ok, so I haven't blogged in a good long while. We've been making lots of little Rachel videos, but I haven't gotten around to editing any of them for YouTube viewing.
So... what's been going on? Well, follow my twitter and you might know. :) Rachel has become quite mobile in the last couple of weeks. She's doing an army crawl quite effectively, and just today she pulled herself to her feet, if ever so briefly. She's also getting teeth, which has made Carrie's job fun, but the good news is that we're getting her to nap for more than the annoying half-hour intervals that she's been giving us. (Knocking on wood as I type.)
The jobs are going well. I've plenty of private students (with two having upcoming auditions at UMKC, no less), and both my accompanying gig at St. Teresa's and my teaching at Avila is going well. St. Teresa's just completed their musical, Zombie Prom, and that small cast did a bang-up job. I was very pleased with how things turned out. Oh, and one night we decided to do Zombie makeup in the pit, which was particularly effective as there was no literal pit, we were just wedged between the stage and the audience.

Things at Avila are going well. I've finally gotten into a groove with my piano students and music appreciation students, though I can't believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I've tons of ideas about recruitment (which includes a facebook page and twitter account), though I've been so swamped as new faculty that I haven't been able to implement everything I'd like to. Hey, that's what next semester is for, right?
I also have my last doctoral recital coming up, with the hearing taking place on the 30th. I'd like to say that I've practiced more, but I haven't with everything that I've been up to. I can say, though, that now that the musical is over I've been gearing up quite a bit, and I can't wait to move past this recital onto all the minimalist and postminimalist music that has been anxiously waiting on the top of my piano. I have a lecture-recital at the New England Conservatory of music in the spring, and after that, my next project is most likely going to be the complete Time Curve Preludes and Book of Sounds. I can't wait.
So, I hope that's enough for now. I'll try to get some videos of Rachel posted when I can.
