Happy Anniversary

Today Carrie and I celebrated our first anniversary. To mark the occasion, we went out to dinner... for pizza. A favorite of ours is The Dish in Liberty, MO. (Any native Libertarian would know of it. Well, unfortunately, on Sunday's, they have a special where the large pizza becomes as cheap as the medium. So, when prompted by our waitress, we opted for the large. Ugh.

Now, don't get me wrong, the pizza is incredibly good, but when you pile it that high and stuff it with soooo much cheese, you can't get very far. We ate just about four pieces between us, leaving half of the pizza to go to our fridge. On the bright side, they had my new favorite beer there, which really surprised me. I enjoyed a Chimay Premier Red Label. Mmmm... All beer should be made by monks. And, as the label says, the proceeds go towards charitable works. So I'm enjoying good beer while serving those in need. What a deal!

Carrie even thought it wasn't that bad. For a beer, that is...

Once we got back to the apartment, we enjoyed a nice Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin, which itself was a wedding gift that we saved for this occasion especially. Mmm... Bubbly.

And that was our anniversary! Cheers!

I'm the winner

Well, for starters, some friends of mine have little poker tourney every three weeks or so. These usually bring in anywhere from 12-20 players. Well, today, with 15 players including myself, I managed to win the whole thing. Personally, I thank my wife for buying for me a poker book for my birthday, which I finished just this morning. I made some much smarter plays (and the not so smart ones as well), got really lucky once, and ended up walking away with $45. Not bad for the $5 buy-in.

Anyway, that's all I have to report. Carrie and I will celebrate our anniversary tomorrow!!! What a year it has been!!

MacBook!!!

I did it, I splurged on a new MacBook. We went with the low-end 1.83 GHz with just the combo drive, as neither my wife nor I could justify $150 for something we really wouldn't use much at all. Though, we did of course upgrade to the 1GB of RAM, cause, well, duh.

On another note, it should be said that if you like Pink Floyd, maybe check out Van der Graaf Generator. Pretty sweet.

Dark Side of the Moon

Well, in an odd turn of events, the choir director I work for (as an accompanist) decided that with these boring two weeks of school between the senior's graduation and the end of school we should do something interesting. Enter Pink Floyd.

Now, if you knew my boss, this is quite an odd thing for her to choose to do. Afterall, Pink Floyd just doesn't seem like her kind of thing, no offense and all...

Well, combine it with the Wizard of Oz as many before have done and the effect is rather interesting. I will believe the band and producers when they say that any correlation between the two is merely coincidental. However, those coincidences are pretty remarkable.

On another note, count me among the fans of Pink Floyd. I just downloaded my favorite track from their 1973 classic, Money, and am really digging it. (How can you not like a song that uses 7/4 meter quite a bit, eh?) Does this make me weird? Or merely weirder?

I guess file this under things you never knew about Andy.

Jeremy Evan Jones

I just wanted to post some recent news. I have a new nephew (son of my wife's brother, Scott, and his wife, Elysha) named Jeremy Evan Jones. He was born on the 16th of this month, and weighed in at 8 lbs 8 oz. and just over 20 inches in legnth. A big baby to say the least.

Unfortunately, due to complications during birth, he lost oxygen to his brain for an unknown period of time. It is still too early to get a very accurate prognosis, but if he survives it looks like he'll have some pretty serious brain damage. He is currently on a respirator, but the doctors say that if his breathing improves just a bit that he will be able to get off that machine.

All prayers would be appreciated for Jeremy and his parents. They are going through a hard time right now and could use all the support they can get.
